About freed-om-yoga

My name is Lynda Miers-Henneveld. I am a yoga teacher and yoga therapist.

I began teaching yoga in Wellington under the guidance of my brother, Peter Henneveld, at the New Zealand School of Yoga, in 1995. The New Zealand School of Yoga became Yoga Central, and I continued to teach there until the end of 2006. From 2007 until 2011 I was co-director and senior teacher at Yoga Unlimited.

The beginning of 2012 signaled the start of my new solo venture, entitled freed-om-yoga. This new beginning has enabled me to focus on the aspects of yoga that I find most healing and inspiring. As well teaching asana (postures) and pranayama (conscious breathing), I enjoy teaching mantra (Vedic chanting) and meditation techniques. All these aspects of yoga are combined to create a balanced and beneficial experience for my students.

I teach group classes, private sessions and yoga philosophy from my home studio in Island Bay. Class numbers are small, so that each individual can receive the input they need to get the most from the sessions. To find out about my classes, and my approach to yoga, please see what I offer.

If you are interested in attending a class at freed-om-yoga, please phone or text 021-386 914, or email

One of the most wonderful aspects of being a yoga teacher is that it creates endless opportunities for learning and connection. Each teacher training I have attended has shown me a new perspective on the way in which yoga can help us to discover our own path towards wholeness. Each student that attends my classes inspires me to learn more about the ways in which I can support this process in others.

I am grateful for the guidance & inspiration I have received, and continue to receive, from many wonderful teachers. My brother Peter introduced me to the practice of yoga, and was my first teacher and trainer. Since then I have attended workshops, seminars and teacher trainings with Donna Farhi, Judith Lasater, Nicky Knoff, Twee Merrigan, Simon Borg-Olivier, Ruth Diggins, and Kausthub Desikachar.

Each of these teachers has enriched my experience of yoga, and deepened my understanding of the purpose of this practice. I am grateful to every one of them for opening their hearts to me, and for offering love, guidance and friendship.

Om shanti.
