yoga with friends on beach

What I offer

  • Group classes
Each group class follows a particular theme, often based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, or an aspect of yoga philosophy which gives us a framework for exploring a variety of postures, pranayama (conscious breathing) and meditation techniques.I  aim to create an atmosphere in which my students feel safe and relaxed to explore at their own pace, in order to form an understanding of the purpose of yoga in the context of their daily lives.
  • Restorative Yoga
In this restful practice we place the body in supported postures which have a deeply nourishing effect on our being. We stay still long enough to allow the benefits of each pose to penetrate deeply. Each class begins with gentle movements, which help to release tension and focus the mind.
Please note: Restorative classes are not always on the schedule, but there are elements of restorative yoga in all of my classes.
  • Individual tuition
Private yoga sessions are a great way to get your home practice off the ground. I can design a sequence especially for you, and help you find the best way to make it part of your life. This process would involve at least two private sessions. The first session would consist of a consultation/exploration, after which I will write your sequence. In the second session I will teach you the sequence and make sure that you are confident to work with it on your own.  As you progress with your practice, we can review and update it as needed. For those who regularly attend group classes, one-on-one tuition can also be very useful for addressing any questions you haven’t had an opportunity to ask, or if you are recovering from illness or injury and are not ready to rejoin the group sessions.
  • Private group sessions
If you would like to enjoy a private yoga session with friends or family, you can book up to 5 people in for a private group session. Let me know if you would like to do an āsāna practice, or if you would like to explore prānāyāma, chanting, or meditation. I can tailor the session to suit your group.
  • Yoga therapy
I offer yoga therapy to those who wish to empower themselves through yoga. The tools of classical yoga (breath awareness, simple postures, visualisation, chanting and meditation) are valuable allies in the healing process. Yoga therapy reconnects you to your innate ability to heal yourself, whether you are suffering from physical, mental or emotional pain.An initial consultation of 90 – 120 minutes is required to establish your home practice. Follow ups are available in the form of 60 and 90 minutes sessions, to fine tune or update your practice. The length and number of sessions required will vary from person to person.
  • Special courses
From time to time, special courses are offered in which we explore specific themes, or specific tools of classical yoga, such as chanting, yoga philosophy, or meditation. The length of the sessions, and the number of weeks in each course will vary depending on what is being explored.
  • Workshops
Workshops offer extended opportunities for exploring yoga. They might be based on a theme, such as the Chakras, or on a particular practice, such as Restorative Yoga or pranayama. I offer half day workshops, or full day workshops in two sessions, with a lunch break between.I also teach half day or full day yoga & meditation workshops in conjunction with my dear friend Peter Fernando, who teaches Insight Meditation. Typically, these workshops run from 11:00am until 6:oopm, with a lunch break and several short breaks to make the day relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. If you are interested in hosting a workshop, please email lynda@freed-om-yoga.com, or call me on 021-386 914 to explore the options.
